Significant magnitude 5.0 quake hits 58 miles southeast of Adak, Alaska, United States in the evening

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 5.0 quake in the United States near Adak, Aleutians West, Alaska, only 18 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Thursday, March 20th, 2025, at 8:29 pm local time at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
