Moderate 4.4 quake hits near Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 15 minutes ago 94 km northwest of Ponta Delgada, Portugal, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 0. km beneath the epicenter near Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal, in the evening on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025, at 8:48 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
