Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Chiang Mai, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand Thailand's Earthquake Observation Division (TMD) reported a magnitude 4.5 quake in Thailand near Chiang Mai, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai Province, 31 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early afternoon on Monday, June 2nd, 2025, at 2:07 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 1. km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Ban Mae Waen (pop. 5,500) located 15 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Chiang Mai (pop. 127,200) located 48 km from the epicenter, San Kamphaeng (pop. 33,000) 48 km away, Ban Mae Thalop (pop. 7,900) 61 km away, and Hang Dong (pop. 17,900) 61 km away.
