Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.7 just reported 21 km east of Daule, Ecuador

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Daule, Provincia del Guayas, Ecuador, was reported only 16 minutes ago by the Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 8. km beneath the epicenter early morning on Friday, June 27th, 2025, at 1:31 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Palestina (pop. 9,400) located 11 km from the epicenter, Samborondon (pop. 24,100) 11 km away, El Triunfo (pop. 32,300) 21 km away, and Daule (pop. 173,700) 21 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Yaguachi Nuevo (pop. 27,900) located 27 km from the epicenter, Babahoyo (pop. 76,300) 30 km away, Eloy Alfaro (pop. 315,700) 33 km away, Milagro (pop. 133,500) 36 km away, and Guayaquil (pop. 2,723,700) 37 km away.
