Small 3.7 quake hits near San Miguel de Tucuman, Departamento de Capital, Tucuman Province, Argentina A shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported early morning near San Miguel de Tucuman, Departamento de Capital, Tucuman Province, Argentina. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at 1:17 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Bella Vista (pop. 15,100) located 10 km from the epicenter, San Miguel de Tucuman (pop. 548,900) 15 km away, Yerba Buena (pop. 50,800) 15 km away, and Famailla (pop. 31,000) 18 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Alderetes (pop. 38,500) located 20 km from the epicenter, Tafi Viejo (pop. 48,500) 24 km away, Monteros (pop. 23,800) 33 km away, Simoca (pop. 7,900) 36 km away, and Aguilares (pop. 32,500) 64 km away.
