Small 3.0 quake hits near Rheinfelden, Freiburg Region, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany

Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Rheinfelden, Freiburg Region, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Monday, July 28th, 2025, at 3:48 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 6.60 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the Swiss Seismological Service (SED), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Schopfheim (pop. 19,400) located 3 km from the epicenter.
