Small magnitude 3.8 quake hits 33 miles south of False Pass, Alaska, United States early afternoon

Just 15 minutes ago, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck near False Pass, Aleutians East, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Friday, August 1st, 2025, at 2:12 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 0.1 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.8 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include False Pass (pop. 40) located 33 miles from the epicenter.
