OP Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,976 Los Angeles, USA	Significant 5.7 quake hits near Paredon, Tonalá Municipality, Estado de Chiapas, Mexico The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 5.7 quake in Mexico near Paredon, Tonalá Municipality, Estado de Chiapas, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, at 8:21 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 32. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), which listed it as a magnitude 5.6 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 5.7. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Paredon (pop. 6,100) located 97 km from the epicenter, Tonala (pop. 35,300) 105 km away, and Arriaga (pop. 24,400) 116 km away.
