Magnitude 4.3 earthquake strikes near Santa Cruz, Provincia de Colchagua, Region del Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, Chile An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred early evening on Thursday, October 30th, 2025, at 6:16 pm local time near Santa Cruz, Provincia de Colchagua, Region del Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, Chile, as reported by The National Seismological Center (Centro Sismológico Nacional, CSN) of the University of Chile.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 28. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.5, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Santa Cruz (pop. 33,300) located 29 km from the epicenter, and Curico (pop. 102,400) 40 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Molina (pop. 28,800) located 47 km from the epicenter, Chimbarongo (pop. 17,400) 54 km away, San Vicente de Tagua Tagua (pop. 29,600) 64 km away, San Vicente (pop. 22,600) 64 km away, Rengo (pop. 38,100) 82 km away, and Rancagua (pop. 212,700) 107 km away.
