Moderate magnitude 4.7 quake hits 21 km southwest of Bungku, Indonesia around noon

Just 6 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Bungku, Morowali Regency, Sulawesi Tengah, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded around noon on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025, at 12:30 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Bungku (pop. 25,500) located 21 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
