Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Akhisar, Akhisar İlçesi, Manisa, Turkey

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported a magnitude 4.5 quake in Turkey near Akhisar, Akhisar İlçesi, Manisa, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, at 6:11 pm local time at a shallow depth of 11.60 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) at magnitude 4.6, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.5, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 4.2, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 4.1, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.5, and The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sindirgi (pop. 10,900) located 17 km from the epicenter, Demirci (pop. 21,400) 31 km away, Bigadic (pop. 15,200) 33 km away, Akhisar (pop. 84,700) 48 km away, Kirkagac (pop. 27,100) 57 km away, and Soma (pop. 65,900) 62 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kula (pop. 31,100) located 71 km from the epicenter, Salihli (pop. 88,900) 74 km away, and Manisa (pop. 244,000) 97 km away.
