Moderate magnitude 4.8 earthquake 94 km southwest of Isulan, Philippines An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 12 minutes ago 94 km southwest of Isulan, Philippines, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, Soccsksargen, Philippines, in the evening on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, at 9:41 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Sangay (pop. 3,800) located 33 km from the epicenter, Kalamansig (pop. 12,800) 44 km away, Laguilayan (pop. 17,800) 89 km away, Lake Sebu (pop. 21,800) 93 km away, Isulan (pop. 101,500) 94 km away, and Norala (pop. 48,500) 94 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Surallah (pop. 91,400) located 99 km from the epicenter, and Koronadal (pop. 201,800) 113 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
