Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes near Tiakur, Southwest Maluku Regency, Maluku, Indonesia An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred only 7 minutes ago 103 km northeast of Tiakur, Indonesia, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported. The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 153. km beneath the epicenter near Tiakur, Southwest Maluku Regency, Maluku, Indonesia, early morning on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, at 3:52 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.0. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tiakur (pop. 5,200) located 103 km from the epicenter.
