Magnitude 3.5 earthquake strikes near Split, Town of Split, Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred in the afternoon on Monday, May 25th, 2026, at 5:25 pm local time near Split, Town of Split, Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.0 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.1, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.1. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Garjak (pop. 54) located 5 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sinj (pop. 10,800) located 22 km from the epicenter, Brnaze (pop. 3,200) 25 km away, Kastel Sucurac (pop. 6,500) 34 km away, Solin (pop. 21,000) 35 km away, Kastel Stari (pop. 7,000) 36 km away, Split (pop. 149,800) 39 km away, Podstrana (pop. 9,100) 42 km away, and Trogir (pop. 10,100) 42 km away.
