Moderate 4.9 quake hits near Hajjiabad, Hormozgan, Iran Just 21 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Hajjiabad, Hormozgan, Iran. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, at 12:08 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Kutawad (pop. 330) located 84 km from the epicenter, Hajjiabad (pop. 23,300) 98 km away, and Minab (pop. 70,800) 105 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Jiroft (pop. 130,400) located 110 km from the epicenter, Bandar Abbas (pop. 352,200) 113 km away, and Bandar Abbas (pop. 352,200) 113 km away.
