OP Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,976 Los Angeles, USA	Significant 6.3 quake hits near Mantua, Municipio de Mantua, Provincia de Pinar del Rio, Cuba A magnitude 6.3 earthquake near Mantua, Municipio de Mantua, Provincia de Pinar del Rio, Cuba, was reported only 6 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km beneath the epicenter around noon on Monday, June 8th, 2026, at 12:00 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Mantua (pop. 10,800) located 124 km from the epicenter, and Minas de Matahambre (pop. 34,400) 149 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
