Small magnitude 3.0 earthquake 3 miles northeast of Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred early evening on Sunday, June 14th, 2026, at 6:22 pm local time near Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia, as reported by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.0. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Broken Hill (pop. 17,500) located 3 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Silverton (pop. 56) located 15 miles from the epicenter. In Kobern (pop. 42, 30 miles away), and Little Topar (pop. 36, 46 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
