Yep, heard that already from BN TV, and apparently should start testing on PAS 8 soon as well.

Not at the same time. You will have to swing the dish around to the west. Or you could get a dish rotator like a Moteck to move it automatically.

NSS6 is almost 90 degrees to the left and very low from Sydney. Elevation is roughly 19 degrees I think so the dish will look like it's pointing down a little - depending on offset angle. Use Lyngsat's sat tracker or this other site for angles.

http://www.lyngsat.com/tracker/nss6.html

http://home.online.no/~jensts/Satellite/lookangles.htm

There's a number of ways you can do it. Moteck rotators are only about $125 and will swing a 90cm around easy enough.

Or you could add a Ku LNB off axis on the C band dish.

I've got a 1.2m for Ku on a rotator but also have a 2.3m solid with Ku and C band LNB's fitted. The C band LNB is 7 degrees off axis with the Fuji Ku at primary focus, since I want to Ku DX with it primarily.

Doesn't look like I can upload pics here?

[ 24. Something about the turnaround and transit costs.

TV+ dont want to do two turnarounds like tarbs used to do so TV+ runs lean operation and saves $$

With TARBS and again today with UBI
Original Content in Eurpoe
use RRSAT - for Contribution to Thaicom 3 costs $$$ per channel. Then Turnaround Tarbs PYRMONT to
PAS 8 costs more $$$ per channel. Here is 2 turnarounds with double costs means double customers to break even. Not a good business model... but then again where will UBI be in 6 mths..

Now with TV+
Ok Russian channels are on crap sats and content is not in USA, so its harder to get content to PAS8 in Napa California so use NSS6 and do single turnaround in Europe for DTH KU and so it does the job.

Serbian channels are in the US already, BK & PINK are already sold by Globeca$t in USA and BN just got signed by Globeca$t for USA sales.. I see good cost savings here,,,, ie cheaper costs for TV+ means more secure future than UBI...

This is just a personal opinion,,

Comments folks

If its not available in Australia by C/Ku Band, TV+ will have to bring it in one way or another.
Its not easy running a Pay TV business and TV+ will also have to find out the hard way if they're not smart about it.

Maybe fiber?

Ok

Content that is available in USA can be turned around at the PANAM$AT facility at NAPA California which uplinks to PA$8 this means content dosent need to be in Aus on C/KU to uplink to PAS8

May go that way. Cross strapping..

Looks like the other ethnic providers are all on Pas 8. The stuff about Panamsat shutting down TARBS may be true after all.

I think Big Chief has it right. We already have Globecast and Panglobal on PAS8 - they are definately in league with each other and probably conspired to get rid of TARBS. We also have Globecast on Optus B3.
Here a couple possibilities:
1. Globecast leaves B3 and concentrates business on PAS8. Maybe not likely.
3. Globecast/Panglobal start selling dishes with two LNBs, one aligned for Be and the other for PAS8. It is possible to do with properly designed equipment. This is the most likely way the jackals will go.
What do youse think??
