Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,977 Los Angeles, USA	Significant magnitude 6.1 quake hits 38 km southwest of Tambolaka, Indonesia, early morning Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 6.1 quake in Indonesia near Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, only 4 minutes ago. The earthquake struck early Sunday morning, October 4, 2026, at 6:55 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage. Moderate shaking probably occurred in Tambolaka (pop. 35,800), located 38 km from the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Bima (pop. 161,400), located 129 km from the epicenter; Dompu (pop. 55,000), 129 km away; and Waingapu (pop. 35,900), 145 km away.
