Small magnitude 3.3 quake hits 13 km southeast of Hafnarfjordur, Iceland after midnight

An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred only 8 minutes ago 13 km southeast of Hafnarfjordur, Iceland, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 4.40 km beneath the epicenter near Hafnarfjordur, Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður, Capital Region, Iceland, after midnight on Sunday, October 4th, 2026, at 12:40 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Hafnarfjordur (pop. 30,000) located 13 km from the epicenter, and Garðabaer (pop. 11,400) 15 km away.
