According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake struck on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 12:34 a.m. local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage but was probably felt by many people as light vibrations in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Primda (pop. 1,400), located 5 km from the epicenter; Bela nad Radbuzou (pop. 1,800), 5 km away; and Bor (pop. 4,000), 12 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tachov (pop. 12,600), located 19 km from the epicenter, and Domazlice (pop. 10,900), 28 km away. In Weiden (pop. 42,600, 38 km away), Klatovy (pop. 22,800, 52 km away), Pilsen (pop. 168,700, 52 km away), and Cheb (pop. 32,800, 55 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
