Shaman is a word I had heard before, but I did not give it much thought. However, once I made a recent connection to Shamanism, it pops up everywhere (as expected)! My awareness of Shamanism began with this journal entry of mine: Monday 15 Oct 07
I woke at 4:30 this morning from a night of systematic, crystal clear messages from and about Green Man. All I can remember: Shamanic! It is about Shamanism (which I will have to research). He is not scary. I felt very calm and balanced throughout my lessons. I did not feel afraid. His colours are red and green. The leaf I found was a sign from him!

So I researched it and found that there are various definitions of what a Shaman is, but the main attributes seem to be communication with the spirit world and healing. Six days later (from my journal)... Sunday 21 Oct 07
I decided to work more on my Green Man webpage. I removed my Huna Mulligan page (believing now he is actually Green Man). And then I thought...I should look up the word Huna, after all, I did indeed receive that word strongly so it must mean something. And Wiki says!:
Huna is a Hawaiian word first used by Max Freedom Long (1890-1971), in 1936 to describe what he called “the secret science behind the miracles” that ancient Hawaiian kahuna (shamans) performed. It is closely related to New thought.
Serge King has articulated seven principles of Huna:
1. The world is what you think it is. 2. There are no limits. 3. Energy flows where attention goes. 4. Now is the moment of power. 5. To love is to be happy with (someone or something). 6. All power comes from within. 7. Effectiveness is the measure of truth.
One of the primary themes in Long’s books is that the kahuna were not unique to Hawaii. They were the Hawaiian version of an esoteric priesthood that was also found in ancient Egypt. Indian yogis, Christ and Buddha were adepts in these universal principles. What I have come to understand is that Mulligan (the ghostly, hatted, bearded male figure that I have photographed so frequently) is for all intents and purposes Green Man. There is a strong Irish connection to Green Man which may account in part for the Mulligan name he gave me. And now, a few years later, I know what Huna means! The Irish Shamanic Green Man. Piko is another word that I received earlier this month. When I researched it I found that it was a Hawaiian word that means both the crown of the head and the navel. “Ancient Hawaiians held the piko to be the source of life and connection to one’s lineage.” This fits in perfectly with my learning that Green Man is also kokopelli, and that he is about fertility and the creation of life. My search also brought me to this excellent article on Shamanic Healing which starts: Two years ago, I heard about a therapist in Hawaii who cured a complete ward of criminally insane patients--without ever seeing any of them. The psychologist would study an inmate's chart and then look within himself to see how he created that person's illness. As he improved himself, the patient improved. Unable to post link due to forum security it seems, but it is on freewebs dot com /shamanism/articles.htm. It is a great page to read! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.metawake.info/images/graemlins/reading.gif) At the bottom of the page is an absolute golden key for finding pure happiness. Oh, and making this post prompted me to research the origin and meaning of the name Mulligan (funny how things only occur to me when they do). And it is Gaelic of origin and means: Mullechean, the top or summit, a height. Could this be interpreted to mean that Huna Mulligan is not the proper name of this man, but rather the definition that he is a Shaman at the summit...
