I do believe birds are dinosaur descendants Alisa.
The Cassowary, Emu, Ostrich, Rhea etc are all from the same species.The Cassowary looking the strangest, due to the horned crest on it's head. These birds are also quite aggressive if disturbed and pack a very vicious kick and possess a 5" claw on the middle toe, so beware. They remind me of the 'raptors' from Jurassic park. 
There is a lot of artwork and images of archaic animals and things to be found all over the world, on cave walls, pottery, glyphs and stone slabs, but to name a few.
How they come to be depicted by ancient people, who certainly did not see them(normally) is a mystery. Another thing is - how much information, text's, drawings have been lost through the ages through burnings and destruction( both intentional and unintentional). things that the ancient people may have had access to, but is no longer around for us to see it
