An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred early evening on Friday, October 13th, 2023, at 6:59 pm local time near Aomori, Aomori Shi, Japan, as reported by Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate to considerable depth of 173.5 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms.
