Significant magnitude 5.7 earthquake 94 km west of Isulan, Philippines A magnitude 5.7 earthquake near Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, Soccsksargen, Philippines, was reported only 7 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km beneath the epicenter in the afternoon on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, at 4:34 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.7 earthquake as well. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Kalamansig (pop. 12,800) located 32 km from the epicenter, Dinaig (pop. 116,800) 83 km away, Laguilayan (pop. 17,800) 85 km away, Cotabato (pop. 383,400) 90 km away, and Sultan Kudarat (pop. 125,000) 91 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Isulan (pop. 101,500) located 94 km from the epicenter, Norala (pop. 48,500) 100 km away, and Koronadal (pop. 201,800) 121 km away.
