Magnitude 5.4 earthquake strikes near Kirakira, Bauro Central, Makira-Ulawa Province, Solomon Islands

An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred in the morning on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, at 8:01 am local time near Kirakira, Bauro Central, Makira-Ulawa Province, Solomon Islands, as reported by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 82. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Kirakira (pop. 2,100) located 59 km from the epicenter.
