Moderate magnitude 4.0 quake hits 61 km southwest of Helsinki, Finland in the afternoon An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred only 21 minutes ago 61 km southwest of Helsinki, Finland, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Helsinki, Helsinki sub-region, Uusimaa, Finland, in the afternoon on Monday, June 1st, 2026, at 4:08 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.0 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Inga (pop. 5,400) located 37 km from the epicenter, Tallinn (pop. 394,000) 44 km away, Kirkkonummi (pop. 41,800) 44 km away, Raseborg (pop. 27,000) 53 km away, Espoo (pop. 323,900) 56 km away, Lohja (pop. 45,700) 58 km away, Helsinki (pop. 658,900) 61 km away, East Helsinki (pop. 170,600) 70 km away, Vihti (pop. 28,900) 75 km away, and Vantaa (pop. 252,700) 75 km away.
