With B1 having some problems recently, if B1 goes tits up. B3 will have to be moved to 160E to temporarily replace it.

If so you can say goodbye to UBI! (and Globecast too for that matter though they can move elsewhere)

Total Chaos!

I highly doubt that will be happening.

Your rumor or speculation is not needed. You shouldn't be posting this as it will scare current and future customers.

[ 26. May 2005, 07:05 AM: Message edited by: LISKI WORLD TV ]

Highly unlikely!!!

Contracts forbid them doing that. Optus is not just a "fly by the seat of your pants" company, mate...

Let's not even go into the technical nightmare of what's involved in repositioning sat's...

Vlad...

My post wasn't meant to scare potential UBI or Globecast customers. Just a warning as to what may happen depending on how serious the problems with B1 are.

Firstly B1 IS having troubles including Transponders being shutoff for an hour the other night. THAT isn't minor when they have to do that! as is last night when another 10 minute shutdown occured.

In an emergency situation such as complete failure of another satellite. Some contracts are null and voided. "pre-emptibble" remember when I804 failed. All urgent traffic was moved to 701 this meant all non urgent was shifted elsewhere "pre -empted" e.g Pac TV mux, TBN etc all had to shift elsewhere.

The major customers on B1 are SKY NZ and the Aus govt (abc'sbs terrestrial feeds etc)

IF b1 was to fail, the backup would defintely be B3 hurried to 160E so Sky NZ and abc/sbs terrestrial transmitter feeds could resume service as quickly as possible.

This would mean Optus using Emergency clauses in the contracts of those currently on B3. Yes that would probably include remuration for affected customers such as costs being paid to repoint customers dishes if they had to move elsewhere.

NO other solution exists, options for UBI would be a change in sat to either Asiasat 4ku or NSS6 or nss5. I doubt there would be enough space on the H side of B3 if moved to 160E as existing customers of B1 such as the abc/sbs services would be higher up the ladder in terms of importance.

B1 was used last night for example with the SOO, from brisbane to Sydney back end network link (satellite feed)

+ several other service options.

As far as I know (Service Delivery technical team) have posted no news about B1 having problems.

I'm Starting to wonder if Apsattv TV is working for Sky TV It would be good to see him for a change give Praise to UBI for doing a good job of bringing ethnic Channels for the Australian community.
Only last week My sister was connected to TV plus and we were Talking about UBI, the Contractor that installed the TV plus installation said very clearly and we Believed him that UBI will not get any more channels as they have filled their transponders and because there is no more spare positions UBI will definitely not get any channels for the Balkans people
Now I see that UBI has turned on Today another Transponder and if they fill that with Balkans channels I will curse that lying contractor.

Meatball,

If you read the Macedonian newspaper last week it states that UBI are planning on:

3 x Macedonian (Includes the K-15/UBI joint venture channel)
2 x Bulgarian
2 x Bosian
3 x Serbian
2 x Croatian

UBI nearly finished building an Earth Station in Skopje, Macedonia to bring heaps of new channels from the Balkans to Australia.

Plus don't forget the other Earth Station that is nearly completed in Greece!

GO UBI!

[ 26. Liski
The trouble is and we have found is who do you believe, Most of the time this forum is very helpful and only today i got on to see if there is any changes and what do I read the opposite what I was told only last week about UBI getting more channels as again I was told in simple terms they have no more room and thats it.
But i did read on other post that Arabic,Turkish and now Latino customers are very happy and I wish what you say comes true because some of us Mainly our parents will be very happy with UBI when they show us what they are about to offer.
From now on I will only Believe when I see it.

Meatball,

There was always talk of a new transponder when the current ones became full.

Of course a TV Plus technician is going to give negative and false news regarding UBI.

[ 26. May 2005, 08:34 PM: Message edited by: LISKI WORLD TV ]

Let me explain, Sky NZ is fully contracted and has been there for years. They also have signed with Optus until 2015 (includes existing capacity plus even more on D1) like it or not this makes them the MAJOR user of B1 with some 600000 subscribers (largest amount of dishes on b1)

The 2nd major user that it would cause the most disruption to is the Aus govt with nationwide SBS and ABC feeds for the whole Aussie digital tv system. I don't think they fibre backup to every single DTV transmission site around Australia.
It might be possible to fit them on C1 someplace but it would still leave a large amount of retransmission sites that need dish repoints.

There are a number of satellites belonging to a group that are available for restoration of services following failure of a satellite. I believe that Optus subscribes to the group. So if B1 dies, the restoration satellite can be drifted into into the orbital location of B1 and transfer of services can take place. Looks like D1 will be launched early 2006. This will replace B1. Have faith and may the force be with you all.

LISKI WORLD TV please read:
Optus B1 will be replaced by Optus D1.
Optus C1 will not be replaced by D2, instead it will be co-located with C1 to give a wider frequency range - same as currently done with Astra, Hotbird, and others over Europe.
No concrete plans yet for the replacement of Optus B3.

Liski your info is wrong
B3 replaced by C1? what are you saying all those C1 Customers will have to repoint to 152E.....nope

C1 and D2 will both be at 156E

In fact Sky NZ are installig a twin lnbf that gets 160E and 156E as backup.

There were two brief interruptions to SKY’s satellite service on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
