This is what Stuart Wilde(English mystic and visionary)has to say on this question:
Einsteins' laws of relativity apply to light moving in a straight line at 300,000 kilometer per second. However, light has another direction of motion that is transverse to its main direction of flow; in effect, light jiggles side-ways as it is traveling forward.

Stuart says that transverse waves of light are the key to our hopes of a transdimensional perception. For, while Einstein's laws hold good in any one direction of light, the transverse wave operates in another dimension, oscillating at right angles to the direction of light pulsing at between 4000-8000 times per second. The crests of each of the transverse light waves are between 37.5 - 75 kilometers apart.
What Stuart discovered is, that some of the places mystics call 'the spirit world' exist at an angle of 90� to us. It's locale, if such a word can be used to describe it's position, is by your side. So Stuart says jokingly, " The great masters didn't ascend to heaven, they more likely shuffled across to it." Further, Stuart says that because the transverse speed of light is quite different from the regular speed and direction of light, it penetrates another world of imaginary numbers in which the laws of relativity break down.
Wilde says that to go backwards in time, in your perception, you have to learn to follow the transverse waves of light, traveling sideways.
Sylvia Browne(US psychic medium) tells us this:
"The tunnel of light which we have all heard so much about rises from our own bodies, from our own etheric substance, and instead of pointing skywards, it stops in a position just above us at a 30-40 degree angle. So the trip through the tunnel is not "up" but "across".
The otherside is not "out there, but right here amongst us, a mere three feet above our own ground level, another dimension , operating at a much higher frequency.
What they both appear to be saying is, that the spirit world is right next to you. So maybe we should take more notice of what we see from out of our eye corners, those sudden movements and flashes of colour could be spirit moving.

Very nice article. It's interesting. I have to agree that the spirit world is all around us, but as to the direction of the entry to the 'SpiritWorld', that's quite another matter. Great article to ponder on!

I've never really given the direction much thought, sooo I'll stick with my old 'spoon fed' belief that we use in common reference, 'when you die, your spirit goes up (or down)' This morning I have a 'thought' that it may be that, when a person dies their spirit goes out of their body and then like dropping a drop of dye in water their spirit enters into the spirit realm.' However, in 15 minutes, I could change my mind... I also think that quantum physics will discover a portal to the otherside eventually. So, for now, I plead my ignorance and bow to the more 'learnered minds' as to the directions on how to get there...

Your views on the topic are perfectly fine with me Dawn, everyone is allowed to have their own thoughts and express them when they need to. 
This forum is about sharing ideas and inviting comments - and you have done just that! 
The 'learnered minds' are just people who have come upon certain information and offer it up as possible truths. Whether one accepts or rejects that information is a personal choice.
For me, personal research is usually my way of dealing with 'truths'.
