Do you think a spirit is confined to whatever 'medium' it's chosen to present itself in? I mean like if you get a picture of a spirit in water, is it necessarily confined to water or can it appear through another method as well...

Interesting question Dawn. Here is my take on it. To answer this question specifically,I would need to know exactly what are you referring to as spirit? but... Water is a wonderful medium for spirit to be seen in. I have many photographs of different types reflected from/on/ and in it. I think for some types of spirit it is just another medium that is used to be seen.Other mediums will also be used for that purpose.

I enjoy these thoughtful questions of yours, Dawn! You keep taking my mind to places I hadn't gone! I'm glad Chris answered first. I like her answer. Lately I have come to feel that the earth is alive and that its spirit animates what is on it, at least plants, and water, rocks, etc., since all these things are made up of energy and spirit. Perhaps it works like a human soul where a portion of the soul exists in the body, while the majority of the soul (if it can be quantified as such) resides "outside" or elsewhere. And only when the specific incarnated identity of the soul dies, it reunites with its whole. Therefore, perhaps if a tree has an individual identity (as I feel it does), it remains separate until it dies and its identity goes back into the whole soul of the earth. I can say that when the huge eucalyptus trees across the street from my house were recently taken down, and I had been out at the time and returned home to smell eucalyptus in the air and then to my horror to see the trees gone, I began sobbing. It felt like a murder to me (and I am not necessarily a "tree hugger" type person...I think ). It was just this very solid feeling that overcame me and made me feel literally sick. Sure there was some logic in there, as I enjoyed looking at the trees and feeling somehow protected with them there, so I can't discount that. But there really was that something else there, too. Also, anecdotally, I find with older trees I get some really cool fierce looking spirits from them, like the huge serpent and the Chinese dragon. So maybe there is some stronger organization of spirit in them due to their age than say to a young bush or sapling. Does this answer the question... I don't know . But it was lots of fun to ponder and conjecture about.

For my question, I refer to a spirit as a sentient being that has no biological body. We played tourist a little while this week end and I got a few good pix... It was this photo that got me thinking about the question I ask, "Is a spirit confined to method"... But I really don't know why... The only descript of the picture that I can give is that it favors the side of a face of a guy wearing a cowboy hat, with something over the other half of his face. What do you see? Edited in: Thank ya Alisa and Chriss, I agree with both your replies. I agree too about the trees. It's almost like they absord everything and if you could just hit the right vibe they would spew forth the secrets of the ages that they've seen pass by... I love trees...

Lovely photo Dawn. I do so love reflective shots. I see the image you are referring to in your photo. For the rest, the photo is rather small to be able to make much detail out from it. I think what you have photographed is spirit reflected in the water. As to what kind, I would hazard a guess that it is from the trees. The number of spirits that inhabit trees can be enormous. To see them straight on is not always easy, but to have them reflected in water or similar, is one of the easiest ways to view them in whatever form they choose to take. I think trees are so important to the survival of this planet. They are doing a remarkable job, have wonderful healing properties and are protectors, especially Oak trees and they have the power and ability to save the memories of what has gone before. ( I could go into a long drawn out speech here, but enough) So I agree with both yourself and Alisa about the trees.

I agree with you Chriss. I think the image is a reflection coming from the trees and I also think his hat maybe the reflection of the pylons and bridge water distortion... It's so clever the way spirits use whatever is handy to manifest themselves. I think it's a cool picture and one of the best faces in water that I've ever took. I was really quite amazed when I first saw it. Thank for the info on Oaks, curiously enough, my husband has a thing about oak. It's the only type of wood in our furniture, cabinets and stuff. That's pretty nifty to know about it retaining memories. I like that... it's charming...

I loved the face photo, Dawn. It reminds me of the tree faces I often see. Yours is very clear and I can see the hat. Excellent!

Hmm, reading this thread brings to mind the theme song to the movie "Pocahontas".. "Colours of the Wind" by Vanessa Williams.
Particularly the lyrics...
"You think you own whatever land you land on The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim But I know every rock and tree and creature Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
You think the only people who are people Are the people who look and think like you But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger You'll learn things you never knew you never knew"
I think that the "method" that spirits use would also likely depend on what kind of spirit it is and how "progressed" it is in regard to the new realm/plane that it now exists in/on.
The human spirit/ghost/soul (call it what you like) goes through a "learning process".
People who have died unexpectedly can often react with shock, horror, intense grief or simply not know what happened or where they are and they need to find their way and work it all out for themselves - perhaps even come to peace with it.
Unexpected passing guts them like it does us.
Those who were expecting to pass - terminal patients and the extremely elderly often make peace with the "next step"... They were ready to go.
After the passing the human spirit needs to feel it's way... How to get from point A to point B... What gets the attention of the surviving loved one... Can they move this or that object etc.
The ability to manifest as a "ghost" (easily identifiable) is not an easy feat for a spirit... I am not talking orbs etc here, I am talking honest to God genuine ghost.
Quite often we find that witness accounts of ghost sightings are of somebody dressed in clothing from an age gone by... Not necessarily in last year's Dolce & Gabbana or tracky dacks from K-Mart... These spirits have had decades if not centuries to perfect the ability to manifest (of "phantasm" as it's known).
The ability to do easier things... Flit from Jane to John's house, move objects, bang and thump etc are what spirits discover they can do first... So they give it a go!
I regularly visit a psychic web site that I think is awesome. Through that site I've had quite a few personal readings (in real time) and have connected with my husband. Through these reading I've learned quite a bit about not only what his life after life is like, but other things as well.

Thanks for sharing that Rainbow. I have read several of the on-line books at Spirit Writings about people who have had a chance to explore the etheric realm whilst still living through conscious out-of-body travel, and people who die and then channel through a living person to explain what they find on the other side. One of my favourite writings is Letters From A Living Dead Man which I have recently re-read.
