While surfing around i found out that in some countries superstition beliefs there are little demons or goblins that come to the earth for twelve days beginning on Christmas and ending their visit on Epiphany. They are thought to not commit any major harm to humanity other than carrying on mischievous pranks. The crimes that they commit are usually quite minor such as riding on a persons back, or extinguishing fires. Around this time period scratches on the walls or fire places are considered to foretell the presence of these little men.

In order to prevent them from entering a household during this twelve day period some people dip crosses into basil and holy water and sprinkle the rooms of their home. (some sprinkle Salt or hang Garlic etc..etc). It is believed that they are fearful of holy water and will not enter a house that is blessed.

They are said to enter a house from the chimney in a similar manner as "Santa Claus", to prevent the them from entering a house during this period fire places are kept burning all day long.

The most notable story of the Goblins is the "Story of the Tree of Life." The tree of life is considered as the base of the world, "The support which the world is build on" if the tree is cut down the world will come to an end. The Goblins for the span of the whole year can be found chopping at the tree of life trying to cut it down and bring an end to the world. When the Goblins have almost succeeded in their task and the world stands on the support of merely a strand of wood Christmas arrives. The Goblins then run up to the earth to cause their mischief.

The Goblins arrive with their leader who rides on a crippled horse the day before Christmas. When the Goblins see the priest begin the blessing of the waters on Epiphany their mischief comes to an end as they run back to the depths of the earth in a panic. When back in the depths of the earth they are shocked to find that the tree of life has replenished itself. The Goblins then begin the task of cutting down the tree once again, only to have the same thing happen to them year after year.

In the past Goblins were used mostly as a fairy tale to scare little children. Though they were considered to commit pranks such as messing up a house some of the pranks were not always bad. In some areas nuts would be thrown into the houses only to be picked up by the children. Little pranks such as this and other weird occurrences were considered actions of these little men!

Ummmm Interesting ....

hehehe I cant wait till Christmas..!

Wow, thanks for sharing that, Flux. elf2 So many sychronicities in the post for me. infinity

And interesting how the goblin stories tie into Christmas (birth of Christ) and the idea of the "tree of life hanging" by its last strand only to be renewed. Life and death cycle - kinda.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading it. Yes it is interesting how everything is cycled just like Mandelbrot’s.

Ohhh, looked up Mandelbrot...fractals! I remember learning about those though friend who wrote a fractal generator program many years ago. You have such a strong scientific understanding it seems, Flux. wink

Hi flux,
Really enjoyed lookin at all your neat stuff.looked up Mandelbrot & fractal.I'm lost,& I'm usually pretty good at comprehending most things scientific - so now I just feel like a moron!do you think you could explain it to me in laymens terms? i'd really like to have a better understanding of it.I love all things science related, and spirituality related as I believe you can't have one w/out the other. And I crave any info on both.So if it's not too much trouble do you think you could break it down for me a bit?I'd really appreciate it. oh and I have some intersting photos relating to your gobblin post that alisa agreed to clean-up for me.Once she's done I'd love for you to see them.In one photo
this gobblin seems to be catching a ride on my son's back just like you described,When I took the picture he was standing where else but....in front of the christmas tree!!!(que creepy music)you can post it next to your story if you like. thanx - hag1 - jaime

Hey JimJam6702
when I used the term just like Mandelbrot’s and associated it to life’s cycling I was referring to the complex mathematical algorithms generated and used to make them. In the mathematical complexity of it all we find a way to view the resulting visual patterns that bring emotions upon us that we then use for our interpretations of things if that makes sense. Pretty much the same way as the images we experience in our everyday lives do the same thing.
They are so pretty to look at I find them fascinating and in fact scientists are starting to use the patterns of Mandelbrot fracturals to use as flat antennae panels because of their efficiency to capture electro magnetic energy.

I would love and can’t wait to see the pic you took in front of the Christmas tree of the goblin hitching a ride on your sons back…
Thank you for sharing… typing

Christmas Gobblin

Flux, here are the gobblin photos as promised. Maybe you could veiw them in your paint program and use zoom to see it better. Or as I told Alisa, If you save them to your computer & veiw it as a temp desktop,it is much easier to see. But you probably already know that. Feel free to mess w/it if you want & repost if you can get it to become more visible...enjoy!

Yeah yeah you bet I see the little goblin…they are great pics.. camera
But first things first..!! By the gleam in your sons eyes I recon he has already worked you out and where your threshold is and knows how to keep you there at all times. I love the contrast in his facial expressions between pic 1 & 2. So innocent looking in pic 1 and Oooopsy DOoooopsy mom in the second. teehee
You have one very handsome young man on your hands and should be very proud of him..!! angel

(hey spam filter…how am I doing? Time for a split questionmark)

Anyway’s back to the goblin, I see it so clearly I’ve never seen a pic of one before. Only heard the stories of them as a kid. I remember the grandparents playing cards a game simular to old maid but instead of the troll card they used the goblin card. Ah them were the days. Learning so much through the imagination and storing it away for it to pop up again with some sort of relevance or validation to something that happens tomorrow… crystalball

Interesting how we evolve in so many ways ah…

(Still OK spam filter… questionmark)

Better not push my luck too far 4 now I spose….

TBC

THANK YOU FLUX blush!!! What sweet words about my baby, and I am very proud indeed. & YES he knows how to work mama whip! How perceptive of you, is his energy that strong???

I knew the minute I read your gobblin story that you would appreciate those photo's. I've never seen one either, & infact just discovered that one about 3 weeks before I read your post.

I just recently w/in the last 2 or three years startred to believe that demons really exist, so for me to find that so soon after changing my belief, stunned me! As a matter of fact, That first photo used to be my 'desktop' pic, that's actually when I noticed it. And I thought it was a demon, so I removed it from my desktpo because every time I looked at it, ALL I could see was the DEMON!!!

But since reading your X-mas gobblin post, I don't see him as a demon anymore, he's just our cute little x-mas gobblin visiting our world for a few days, hitchin rides from us 'big futs'! So thanx fluxy for changing my perspective to something more positive, you actually ended up helping me not to be so frightened of it! YOU ROCK....and now my little gobblin friend is your little gobblin friend. I'm positive now, that you'll be able to see them come this x-mas, I hope you'll share your findings... I know you will.

Thanx for enlightening a scared lil mama, I not scared no mores!
