Thanks very much (muchas gracias) for sharing these photos of your visit to the Museum. I love antiquities and going to museums. And it's not likely I'll ever get to Mexico City (though, who knows ), so I am very appreciative of this peek at some of these Pre-Hispanic artefacts.

The spider pot really fascinates me for some reason. Also the last image of the face and folded hands...I really feel drawn to it. It reminds me a bit of a vampire.

There is a lot of anthropomorphism (animals having human characteristics) and the pig body actually has a human head. In my spiritual pursuits, I see entities that are part dog or bat, but with human features. It seems this may be a universal theme. It definitely permeates ancient religions. Maybe it is because humans and animals are connected very literally.

Since you were there, I'd really like to know your thoughts about these things.

The second picture, the elf looking thing with the circular eyes, I see beings like him a lot! Usually in photos. I have seen quite a bit of them in Alisa's (the first lady to reply to your posts) photos. They are almost always in a naturistic setting outside. I find them in trees, bushes, dense brush etc. I had no idea that there were ancient (I guess that's just an assumption on my part) sculpture of them, although I'm not surprised.

Thanks again for such interesting stuff to discover, have you ever seen any of these creatures in life & or heard of them or legend of them?

A question that's totally unrelated: Does the same device that translates your language to English on this forum also translate our replies back to you in Spanish?

Muchas gracias, Alisa,jimjam6702 me alegro que les haya gustado mi pequeño aporte.Alisa si he tenido experiencias con criaturas de leyendas antiguas, les cuento.Yo tengo una casa en Cuernavaca, cerca de ahi hay antiguos escondites de antiguos aztecas.Una de las mas famosas leyendas es el Nahual.De acuerdo con algunas tradiciones, se dice que cada persona, al momento de nacer,tiene ya el espíritu de un animal, que se encarga de protegerlo y guiarlo. Estos espíritus, llamados nahuales , usualmente se manifiestan sólo como una imagen que aconseja en sueños, o con cierta afinidad al animal que nos tomó como protegidos. Una mujer cuyo nahual fuera un cenzontle tendrá una voz privilegiada para el canto.
Pero no todos tienen un contacto tan leve: se cree que los brujos y chamanes del centro del país pueden crear un vínculo muy cercano con sus nahuales, lo que les da una serie de ventajas que ellos saben aprovechar. La visión del gavilán, el olfato del lobo o el oído del ocelote pasan a ser herramienta de estos videntes, e incluso se afirma que algunos, más preparados, pueden hasta adquirir la forma de sus nahuales, y utilizar esta habilidad de diversas formas, no todas ellas bienintencionadas, según la tradición popular. En México, se le ha dado el nombre de nahuales a los brujos que "pueden" cambiar de forma.
Sin embargo, se cree que el contacto con sus nahuales es también común entre los chamanes que buscan el beneficio para su comunidad, aunque éstos no se valen de la capacidad de transformación. Para éstos, el nahual es una forma de introspección, que le permite a quien lo practica tener un estrecho contacto con el mundo espiritual, gracias a lo cual encuentra con facilidad soluciones a muchos de los problemas que afligen a los que buscan su consejo.
El nahual como compañero animal de los dioses
Desde la época prehispánica se atribuye a los dioses de las culturas maya, azteca y tolteca, entre otras, la facultad de tomar la forma de un animal (nahual) para interactuar con los humanos. Normalmente cada dios tomaba una forma o dos, por ejemplo, el nahual de Tezcatlipoca era el jaguar, aunque usaba indistintamente la forma de coyote, y la de Huitzilopochtli era un colibrí.

Como se ha dicho antes, la influencia de los dioses en el mundo prehispánico era ejercida muchas veces en una forma animal que ponía a prueba a los viajeros. La mayor parte de estas historias están relacionadas con Tezcatlipoca en forma de coyote. Erróneamente se ha ligado a Quetzalcóatl, símbolo espiritual de religiones New Age, aunque este es más conocido en su faceta de hombre o rey gobernante que bajo una forma animal, acorde con el nombre de "serpiente emplumada" que lo identifica, sin implicar trato con los humanos bajo esa forma.

Mi casa esta cerca de varios de estos escondites. Una noche de Diciembre, me encontraba paseando por los alrededores a altas horas de la noche, de momento vi a un perro de proporciones enormes (se podría decir que era del tamaño de un lobo)y me alarme y me quede paralizada.Un anciano de la region se encontraba a pocos metros de donde yo estaba y me hizo la señal de que guardara silencio y lo hice. Al momento el perro comenzo a irse pero cada vez se hacia mas grande, llego a un punto en que vi que caminaba en dos patas y desaparecio en la noche. Otra experiencia en esa misma region fue cuando se metio una serpiente al cuarto de lavado, mis padres llamaron a un ciudadano experto en plagas y la saco de ahi. El hombre dijo que la mataria en el baño y asi fue, entro al baño y le clavo un puñal en la cabeza a la serpiente, pero cuando lo hizo, esta emitio un grito que jamas se me va a olvidar, parecia el grito de una mujer y yo y mis hermanos nos salimos espantados, al poco rato salio el hombre y dijo que ya estaba todo terminado, que es posible que fuera un Nahual, ya que segun el todavia quedaban algunos por la zona.

Y bueno esa es mi experiencia y con respecto a como traslado mis mensajes del español al ingles, lo hago yo con los conocimientos adquiridos en mi escuela, es que me gusta reforzar mis conocimientos, asi que mil disculpas si a veces no lo hago bien, hago lo mejor que puedo.

I have a house in Cuernavaca, near there are old caches of ancient aztecs.One most famous legends is the Nahual. according to some traditions, they say that every person at birth, already has an animal spirit, which is responsible to protect and guide. These spirits, called nahuales, usually appear only as an image which advises on dreams, or with an affinity to the animal that we took as protected. A woman whose nahual were a mockingbird will have a privileged voice for singing.
But not everyone has a touch so light it is believed that witches and shamans from the center of the country can create a very close bond with their nahuales, giving them an advantage that they know to take. The vision of the hawk, the wolf's nose or ear ocelot become a tool of these visionaries, and even states that some, more prepared, they can even take the form of their nahuales, and use this ability in various ways, not all well-meaning, according to popular tradition. In Mexico, he has been given the name nahuales witches "could" change form.
However, it is believed that contact with their nahuales is also common among shamans who seek the benefit to the community, who may not make use of processing capacity. At the time the dog started to leave but were becoming bigger, I reach a point where I saw that walked on two legs and disappeared into the night. Other experience in the same region was a snake when he went to the laundry room, my parents called a national expert on pest and the bag there. You do wonderfully with English. I would love to speak other languages, but never applied myself for some reason. So I take my hat off to you for learning to speak another language and practicing it so bravely through writing on a public forum.

I feel fortunate to learn some authentic spirituality from your culture through you. I believe in the idea of the Nahual. For me it would be the wolf since these are the beings that have interacted with me. Rather they are winged wolves so more like fruit bats.





And when I saw the movie The Golden Compass, I actually wept at the end and could not help but say out loud from my heart, This is true (we do have animal companion souls)!





The idea of gods taking the form of an animal to interact with humans also resonates with me.

It is vicariously thrilling to think you live so close to caches of ancient artefacts. The experience you had seeing the large wolf dog shift is amazing! I can only imagine how that would have felt. Did it look at you? Was it there to see the old man?

And the Nagual...so that would have actually been a human that was in the form of a snake that died when the snake was killed! Dangerous business turning into a snake!

Y si,la criatura me vio, fue por eso que me asuste pense que me iba a atacar, pero hubo un momento en cuanto clavo sus ojos en los mios, su mirada tenia algo especial, no se senti una sensacion extraña al tenerlo enfrente y mirarlo, fue como si el perro tuviera facciones humanas, una mirada muy particular en un animal. La aparicion del anciano me movio el tapete, resulta que el señor es una chaman (o curandero como se les conoce aqui) se encargan de quitarte los malos esprirtus y hablan con los espiritus de animales y plantas, pienso que el ya sabia perfectamente que el perro era un nahual.Hay un video en internet sobre un cementerio en donde los investigadores iban a evidenciar fantasmas y grande fue su sorpresa al revelar las fotografias en donde salieron una liebre atras de las lapidas (es ilogico que una liebre anduviese por ahi) y un perro(es casi identico al que yo vi)que no se encontraban en el momento de tomar la fotografia, lo pondre en la seccion de cool ideas and links.
