Just before the crash I found some topics on Aussiefrogs and I saved the forum for some readup on the knowledge there, which is now lost...
So I have to ask - how many Renault 5 cars are there in AUS and is there maybe someone around here who has one? I'm originally Dutch and owned (over a course of 2 years) 10 of them, including 3 GTT versions, and I built a Renault Express GTT, the only one in The Netherlands at that time.
Of course, here they're much less common. Currently I have an Renault 5 Automatic, 1991, sitting in Taiwan, waiting for an application for import to Australia.
So of course I would like to know if there are any other people here with this little 5, and if there is any information about them in AUS (like parts is useful).

Renault imported one for assessment. It was gathering dust at the back of the factory last time I saw it. I suspect it was crushed.

Bob Watson rallied a DIY 5 Turbo with a Fuego engine and transaxle. Used a draw through system with IIRC a couple of webers. This was approx mid '80's. Went like a rocket but wasn't the most reliable unit as turbo technology at the time was primitive. Last I heard of it was Bill Hamilton had it and was looking at turning it into a tarmac terror.

there are few kicking around - bi turbos are probably more common than the normally aspirated. Colin Starke over at Alpine Affair in Ringwood would probably know better than most people where the quick ones are hidden. he did a full resto one one a few years ago that went off to Sindy. We used to see one periodically at Renault roundup's in Melbourne - old "Doc" Robbins had one but we lost contact with him

Hi doubleyou and welcome to the forum(by what ever name you want). There are a few 5turbos in Australia. There was a blue one at the Rendezvous in Canberra in 2008 and a white one at the RSAE in Brisbane in July. The white one was a Queensland car for a few years. There's pix of the white one on the RSAE Blog. http://rsae2010.blogspot.com/i know there are more but don't have any details at all about any others. There's one blue R5 in Brisbane, a member of the RCCQ. Not sure how many other basic R5 there are either. Ron, they are just single turbos mate, pity. Reminds me I saw on a fox show a few weeks ago the presenter refer to the GTA turbo as twin turbo and these people are presenting a show telling people about classic cars. Chris
