Light 4.1 quake hits near Ōfunato, Ōfunato-shi, Iwate, Japan 4.1 quake 19 Jan 5:47 am (GMT +9) Just 13 minutes ago, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Ōfunato, Ōfunato-shi, Iwate, Japan. The tremor was recorded early morning on Tuesday 19 January 2021 at 5:47 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 49.2 km below the surface. The event was filed by NIED, the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.0. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ōfunato (pop. 35,400) located 25 km from the epicenter, Kamaishi (pop. 43,100) 40 km away, Ōtsuchi (pop. 16,500) 50 km away, Tōno (pop. 26,800) 56 km away, Yamada (pop. 20,100) 61 km away, Ichinoseki (pop. 63,000) 69 km away, Mizusawa (pop. 61,300) 73 km away, and Ishinomaki (pop. 117,200) 78 km away.
