Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 26 km northeast of Fayrōz Kōh, Afghanistan early morning 4.2 quake 19 Mar 6:23 am (GMT +4:30) A magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Fayrōz Kōh, Chaghcharan, Ghowr, Afghanistan, was reported 37 minutes ago by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 110 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at 5:53 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fayrōz Kōh (pop. 15,000) located 26 km from the epicenter. In Chīras (pop. 12,800, 95 km away), and Qal‘ah-ye Shahr (pop. 7,800, 97 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
