Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.8 just reported 86 km southeast of Arawa, Papua New Guinea

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake near Arawa, Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, was reported only 26 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 95.2 km beneath the epicenter late at night on Friday, June 17th, 2022, at 11:10 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
