Moderate magnitude 4.7 quake hits 113 km south of Severo-Kuril'sk, Russia after midnight
4.7 quake North Pacific Ocean, Russia, Aug 28, 2022 12:05 am (GMT +11)

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Severo-Kuril'sk, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, was reported 39 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter after midnight on Sunday, August 28th, 2022, at 12:05 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.8.
