Magnitude 5.0 earthquake strikes near Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos, Philippines 5.0 quake 19 Feb 2:22 am (GMT +8) An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred only 13 minutes ago 93 km northeast of Laoag, Philippines, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported. The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 40 km beneath the epicenter near Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos, Philippines, early morning on Monday, February 19th, 2024, at 2:22 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Pagudpud (pop. 4,900) located 49 km from the epicenter, Claveria (pop. 10,600) 50 km away, Namuac (pop. 3,000) 54 km away, Bacarra (pop. 9,600) 87 km away, Cabaritan East (pop. 9,300) 93 km away, Laoag (pop. 102,100) 93 km away, San Nicolas de Ilocos (pop. 34,200) 96 km away, Aparri (pop. 33,200) 109 km away, and Batac City (pop. 53,500) 110 km away.
