Just 13 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Maitland, Maitland Municipality, New South Wales, Australia. The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at 5:58 am local time, at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, which listed it as a magnitude 5.1 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
