Moderate magnitude 4.7 earthquake 107 km southeast of Mati, Philippines An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred early morning on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, at 2:06 am local time near Mati, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines, as reported by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency. According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.7. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Pondaguitan (pop. 2,100) located 78 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bobon (pop. 4,500) located 92 km from the epicenter, Tibanbang (pop. 7,800) 95 km away, Sigaboy (pop. 8,000) 99 km away, Mati (pop. 105,900) 107 km away, and Manay (pop. 20,300) 114 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
