Small magnitude 3.8 earthquake 1 km northwest of Lushnje, Albania The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 3.8 earthquake in Albania near Lushnje, Bashkia Lushnje, Qarku i Fierit, just 12 minutes ago. The earthquake struck in the early afternoon on Tuesday, August 25th, 2026, at 3:56 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the earthquake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports. A second report was later issued by the Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same earthquake include the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH), with a magnitude of 3.4; the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), with a magnitude of 3.5; and the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, with a magnitude of 3.5. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the earthquake was probably felt by many people in the epicentral area. It should not have caused significant damage, apart from objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Lushnje (pop. 63,100), located 1 km from the epicenter; Golem (pop. 7,000), 2 km away; Peqin (pop. 16,600), 12 km away; Kucove (pop. 31,100), 25 km away; Fier (pop. 56,300), 28 km away; Kavaje (pop. 30,000), 29 km away; Patos (pop. 16,000), 30 km away; Patos Fshat (pop. 22,700), 34 km away; and Tirana (pop. 418,500), 43 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the earthquake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Durres (pop. 195,900), located 46 km from the epicenter.
