The A2100AX model spacecraft was built by Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems (LMCSS) and is being launched by International Launch Services (ILS). The hybrid Ku band/Ka band satellite will operate from 105° West and support advanced video and broadband services for EchoStar Communications Corp.<br />

These modems are being ordered to grow the Connexion by Boeing network, now serving seven airlines that are either under contract or intending to offer the real-time, high-speed in-flight Internet service to their passengers. Deliveries of the modems from this order are scheduled to begin in early 2005.<br />

Orbimage expects OrbView-2 to continue providing service for at least another 3 to 5 years. Since its launch on August 11th, 1997, OrbView-2 has travelled over 1.6 billion km, made over 37,000 orbits around the Earth, and collected over 500 billion square km of multispectral (colour) imagery as it images the entire earth every day.<br />

The scientists are collaborating with researchers from the United Arab Emirates Department of Water Resources Studies and 20 other U.S., European and South African research laboratories to decipher the complex processes controlling the area's climate.<br />
