Mixo
I will try to write this very simply, so yourself and others can understand.
1. Mike Boulos for one is very dilligent with his money and so are most of us.
2. Uplink fees from a third party uplink company would cost UBI multi million dollars a year for a lousy few channels and if you enter into a short term contract say to bring your beloved MAD TV or others for a few months, it would cost you more for those few channels than if you settle for a long term contract. So, why in the hell would you want to pay for the above, when you can do this below:
3. Buy a block of dirt, say in Greece for a few million dollars, spend anything up to ?? millions (its not up to me to say how much its costing them) setting up a teleport. Even when their two teleports will be fully operational, that means that the ??? will own them and again I am not saying who actually owns them. It doesn't take a smart person to work out that it isn't going to cost him any uplink fees and at the same time, not only is he saving uplink fees, he will be able to make money by uplinking services for other customers. It will only take a few years to recover his costs and it will be one less bill to pay. Somehow or other I have a feeling you guys want your channels today and you don't give a rats A.R.S.E how many millions it cost UBI for a short term as long as you have them thats all you care. The idea of the game is to get them here as cheap as possible and thats where UBI's success will be. Again, it doesn't take a smart person to add up the sums to see what advantage you have by owning your own teleports. It takes longer to set up as we all know for different reasons but eventually they will be operational. The next big problem, there is no doubt about it, the teleport will break down one day in Greece, I wonder who they are going to get to maintain it?
