I've stated the open model, right of choice as being appropriate and stand by that.

Apsattv; I appreciate full well the volume of junk decoders - some will activate a card, some won't but most play Select after activation, except say a MySat box (more pottage) - these report Error 05 'invalid card' (ABS-CBN like). But the main stayers like Topfield, Humax are not a problem.

One of the complaints about Select; "I keep activating, but my card just doesn't work", I've put down to people not inserting the card UPRIGHT when using CAMS. All in all - the open market works and helps keeps the importers on their toes.

Why providers feel some odd need to spend a hundred and fifty thousand dollars on STB's has me buggered. The dedicated satellite shop supply market should, and increasingly does well for the consumer, not quite the case just yet with big chain retailers, but that will change. I am NOT a seller btw - but a Consumer Advocate - if you wish to see nagging visit "www.notgoodenough.org" under Gripe HQ. I should say Select would do well to print large advertorial posters that SHOPS and retailers can put up, at the moment your most invisible.

A problem exists with older 2.06B cams. Revision 1.0 or greater work with Select (but not Austar), the suspect older types need to be reflashed with Revision 1.0 or greater from SCM, or freecamed - not a problem, but one that upsets Irdeto - too bad - they need to pull their collective fingers out and start catching up with demand.

Importers need to test their STB's first before importing.

SelectTV; I'd again like you to recognise the necessity of an EPG that suits ALL DVB Irdeto decoders. As I've said, - the ABS-CBN 7-day EPG works on every single decoder I've tried to date - from Humax 5400/5410Z unmodded through to Topfield, Extreme, gasp - even UEC 720ix (Aurora)!! It even works on a Wavelength STB!

If they can achieve that - then surely so can we?

Sharp/Lasersat - It is appropriate, and quite normal for people to ask technical or consumer questions on Sat related forums such as this, hell, if it's 'nasty technical' send them to Austech to nag, whinge and ask, so be it.

I for one want Select to survive, it really is THE most consumer friendly provider we have insofar allowances. I do wonder though if they, or for that matter UBI would get better transponder pricing off AMC23?
