A friend recently sent me these in a group email:

It was accompanied by this explanation:

Quote
Woman is Abagail Alfano of Pine, Louisiana-she did not do it for a lark but had studied them daily and one morning put the cup in her hand with sugar water in it. They had gotten used to her standing by the feeder and came over to her hand. She says in touching them they are as light as a feather. She said if she would had known her husband would take pictures she would have put on makeup !!?

This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This lady lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. Just for a lark, she took the little red dish and filled it with sugar water and this is the result.

I post this because for one thing this is just sheer magnificence. cheerful And secondly because I also have indulged in studying and feeding bird and had them, much to my surprise, land on me several times thinking I had food for them. And it is a beautiful experience, though I think feeding hummingbirds like this would be ultra-amazing.

And thirdly, because the swiftness of their wing flutters leave them looking diaphanous and in various stages of transparency, which made me think of fairies and others such creatures that appear transparent possibly because they exist at a higher visual frequency of vibration.

Nice photos and lovely birds.

I have never seen a hummingbird in the wild,as they are native to the America's. But i have often seen Sunbirds, which are similar to the hummingbirds, but not related.

Apparently, the Hummingbirds beat their wings from between 55-75 times a second( depending on the bird size) dizzy

True, it is one of your strengths, but you have way too many good features to narrow it down. hug

I love this article and pictures. It's a Beaut.
I gave me a big huge smile.

I love hummingbirds, they remind me of wee angels flitting about.
I've never considered that they would remind one of the fae... thinking
mmm Alisa, You're right. They really do make one think of Faeries... Cool! fairy
