Moderate magnitude 4.5 earthquake 95 km northeast of Bislig City, Philippines 4.5 quake 27 Aug 1:29 am (GMT +8) A magnitude 4.5 earthquake near Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, was reported only 22 minutes ago by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 2 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Saturday, August 27th, 2022, at 1:29 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.5. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Marihatag (pop. 3,800) located 84 km from the epicenter, Arrasasan (pop. 5,100) 85 km away, Hinatuan (pop. 10,100) 85 km away, Bislig City (pop. 67,600) 95 km away, Tagbina (pop. 10,700) 100 km away, and Tandag (pop. 29,000) 104 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
