Small tremor of magnitude 3.8 just reported 24 km southwest of Bełchatow, Poland 3.8 quake 2 Sep 11:59 pm (GMT +2) A magnitude 3.8 earthquake near Bełchatow, Powiat bełchatowski, Łodź Voivodeship, Poland, was reported only 21 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 1 km beneath the epicenter late at night on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, at 11:59 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Gmina Rusiec (pop. 1,500) located 11 km from the epicenter, and Bełchatow (pop. 62,900) 24 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Radomsko (pop. 49,200) located 32 km from the epicenter, Wieluń (pop. 24,400) 36 km away, Zduńska Wola (pop. 44,500) 41 km away, Sieradz (pop. 44,400) 46 km away, Petrikau (pop. 80,100) 47 km away, Częstochowa (pop. 248,100) 50 km away, and Lodz (pop. 768,800) 65 km away.
