Moderate 4.5 quake hits near Beirut, Beyrouth, Lebanon

An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred 35 minutes ago 75 km southwest of Beirut, Lebanon, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 14. km beneath the epicenter near Beirut, Beyrouth, Lebanon, in the morning on Monday, April 6th, 2026, at 10:52 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) at magnitude 4.6, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) at magnitude 4.3, the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) at magnitude 4.6, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sarafand (pop. 11,000) located 51 km from the epicenter, Tyre (pop. 135,200) 53 km away, Sidon (pop. 163,600) 55 km away, Ghazieh (pop. 50,000) 56 km away, and En Naqoura (pop. 24,900) 63 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Habbouch (pop. 98,400) located 69 km from the epicenter, Nahariya (pop. 58,100) 72 km away, Beirut (pop. 1,916,100) 75 km away, Aley (pop. 130,000) 80 km away, and Jounieh (pop. 96,300) 89 km away.
