Magnitude 2.8 earthquake strikes near Amata, Anangu Pitjantjatjara, South Australia, Australia

An earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred only 20 minutes ago 25 miles northwest of Amata, South Australia, Australia, Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.9 miles beneath the epicenter near Amata, Anangu Pitjantjatjara, South Australia, Australia, early morning on Monday, April 6th, 2026, at 6:30 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.8.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Amata (pop. 430, 25 miles away), and Kanpi (pop. 32, 40 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
