Peanut Satay Sauce

Ingredient Quantity
Creamy peanut butter 1/2 cup
Coconut milk (full fat) 1/2 cup
Soy sauce 2 tablespoons
Lime juice 1 tablespoon
Brown sugar or honey 1 tablespoon
Sriracha. 1 teaspoon
Fresh ginger, minced 1 teaspoon
Garlic, minced 1 clove

Heat a small splash of oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Sauté the minced garlic and ginger for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Stir in the peanut butter, coconut milk, soy sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and sriracha.
Whisk constantly until the sauce is smooth and begins to simmer.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.
Remove from heat and stir in a bit of warm water or extra coconut milk if the sauce is too thick.

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 667
continues.

SUMMARY...Additional northward development of scattered strong to
severe storms is expected into southwestern KS over the next few
hours. Severe hail and wind gusts will be the main threats.

DISCUSSION...Thunderstorms continue to develop northward along the
southwestern KS/northwestern OK border area, preceded by a well
sheared and unstable airmass, characterized by 3000+ J/kg MLCAPE and
40-50 kts of effective bulk shear. Multiple surface boundaries are
evident via observations and visible satellite, with the primary
boundary located from just northeast of DDC, eastward to well east
of ICT. Agitated CU, from Harper County, OK to DDC, may also be
developing on a secondary boundary. 

The current thinking is that convective initiation will likely occur
or east of DDC in the next few hours. Storms should be initially
supercellular, accompanied by a severe hail risk, with some stones
potentially exceeding 2 inches in diameter. Convection may then
merge into a small cluster/possible cold-pool-driven MCS, and
traverse the zonal boundary across southern KS later this evening.
Should this scenario unfold, severe gusts will become the main
threat, with 75+ mph gusts possible given 8+ C/km mid-level lapse
rates present (per the 18Z DDC observed sounding).

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of 
  Southwest Kansas
  Oklahoma
  Texas Panhandle

* Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 345 PM until
  1000 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
  Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 80
    mph possible
  Isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...Storms will continue to increase and intensify near an
outflow boundary across Oklahoma, and also near a front across
Kansas as well as eastern parts of the Texas/Oklahoma Panhandles.
Damaging winds will be the primary concern, with some hail possible
as well.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 55
statute miles north and south of a line from 115 miles west of Alva
OK to 40 miles east southeast of Chandler OK. For a complete

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

A deamplifying upper-level trough moves into the Great Lakes region
by Day 4/Tuesday as ridging continues across the southern CONUS,
generating some fire weather concerns for portions of the
central/northern High Plains on Day 3/Monday. Otherwise, a relaxing
mid/upper jet pattern will emerge across the northern U.S. next week
as stronger westerly flow aloft shifts into Canada. A less dynamic
upper trough should move into the northwestern U.S. by midweek, but
surface pressure response and resultant wind speeds will be muted
mitigating a broader scale fire weather threat. The upper trough
should also aid in suppressing subtropical moisture influx into CA
and the Great Basin, where mostly dry conditions will prevail.

and low daytime RH will support a fire weather threat Monday.
Farther north, a similarly windy environment within dry,
post-frontal flow from the west-northwest, could also present fire
weather concerns across portions of northern WY, far southeastern MT
and parts of western SD. 40% critical probabilities have been
introduced for these areas as fuels remain receptive in the region.
There remains some forecast uncertainty in expected rainfall
distribution and amounts leading up to Monday, so the highlighted
threat area could change in subsequent outlooks.

Persistent south winds each day are expected across portions of the
Southern Plains next week under a meandering upper ridge across the
southeastern U.S. Well above normal temperatures in the upper 90s to
lower 100s F will maintain a receptive fuelscape where rainfall was
minimized, primarily across southwestern OK and portions of
northwestern TX. However, ensemble guidance probabilities of surface
RH falling below 25% are low, reducing confidence in alignment of
southerly winds of 15-20 mph and suppressing a more significant fire
weather threat.

Moderate but deep magnitude 5.3 quake hits 74 km southeast of Nakanoshima, Japan, early morning

Japan was shaken near Nakanoshima, Kagoshima-gun, Kagoshima-ken, by a magnitude 5.3 earthquake just 9 minutes ago, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake struck at an intermediate depth of 112. km beneath the epicenter near Nakanoshima, Kagoshima-gun, Kagoshima-ken, Japan, early on Sunday morning, September 13th, 2026, at 5:33 am local time. The earthquake's strength may have been tempered by its relatively great depth below the surface, making it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which also listed the quake at magnitude 5.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage but was probably felt by many people as light vibrations in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Nakanoshima (pop. 740), located 74 km from the epicenter, Koseda (pop. 11,900), 93 km away, and Miyanoura (pop. 6,500), 96 km away.
